In the case a system is joined to a new directory, the user may want to keep their profile to retain settings and accounts. 

First, logon as new directory user to create the local profile. 

Logon as local admin user. Then open the registry and navigate to the ProfileList.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Then modify the ProfilesDirectory key to point to the old profile directory.
